Comments on the E.R.O. from our members in the industry:

Security Officer A:

“An increase to €14.90 wouldn’t cut it, in my opinion.

I’m not going to stand out in the cold, like I’ve done all winter for €2 extra. We need to be earning at least €16 per hour on a normal day, time and a half for weekends. Night crew should be on time and a half and double for weekends.

Holiday pay should be on par with our normal day, not this 9.6 hours rubbish that G4S pay.
The industry has gone to hell, we waited 4 years for this paltry increase, and now a 40 hour week gets us €8 extra, that doesn’t even cover my diesel.

I was out sick over the Christmas with COVID and I’m having an issue getting my 3 days statutory sick paid to me, and still no word over the Bank Holiday pay screw up.

Sorry if I’m ranting, but I’m angry with the industry and G4S. Frontline workers, yeah right.
I’d happily go on strike”

Security Officer B:

“The suggested €14.50 from €12.90 shows the government & employers/nervous trade union bureaucrats are looking over the shoulders at organised Security Officers who are willing to picket rogue bosses.”The suggested €14.50 from €12.90 shows the government & employers/nervous trade union bureaucrats are looking over the shoulders at organised Security Officers who are willing to picket rogue bosses.

Secondly, the not yet signed into law ERO doesn’t go far enough. The Cost of Living crisis is still with us, and won’t cover the petrol and school/college costs.
Lastly, the ERO barely rewards loyalty in terms of gradual annual leave and gives powers employers deduction from security wages when Security Officers hand in their notice.”

Security Officer C:

“I believe the change to 14.90 will allow people to to live a bit but it’s still not enough we don’t think of our own safety in work we go to work to earn money for our family’s to eat a r re of over our heads pay bills not a lot left over from the wage packet.
But our partners, wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, they worry if we are going to get hurt or worse if we are going to come home. Security is a dangerous job. €16 euro start off rising to €20 for experience.”
